“The poor, the illiterate, the ignorant, the afflicted - let these be your God. Know that the service to these alone is the highest religion”. Thereby rehabilitation projects are the major part of the Ramakrishna Mission Ceylon branch’s activities. Some of the recent projects handled by the Ramakrishna Mission are as follows.

  • In 2002, the eastern coastal areas were affected by heavy flood and many families were displaced. Ramakrishna Mission built a village called Vivekananda Puram and built 50 houses, a school and a community centre for 50 affected families with the funding from UNICEF.
  • Again the eastern coastal was devastated by the tsunami and 1000s of families were displaced. Ramakrishna Mission has adopted a village (Seelamunai) and built 116 two story houses.
  • Currently engaged in Internally Displaced People due to the civil war in Sri Lanka. More than 46,000 people are being fed and provided assistance every month.
