Swami Vivekananda says “Your work is to serve the poor and miserable, without distinction of caste or colour”- by this he emphasises the service to the people who are in need by all means. Accordingly, the Ramakrishna Mission Ceylon branch organises medical services for the people in need. Colombo Medical CampMonthly free medical camp started in 2002 to provide medical assistance for people from the slum area around Colombo. There are around 2000 patients assisted so far by a panel of 6 voluntary doctors. The camp is organised every first Sunday of the month within the Colombo centre premises and provides general checkups, blood glucose level checkups and free medicines. The volunteers from Sunday religious school provide paramedics and other necessary services. In addition, a team of doctors, pharmacists and volunteers visit rural villages to provide free medical services and medicines, on request by authorities such as government agents or NGOs. There have been more than 20 such medical camps held in up country sides, southern and eastern parts of Sri Lanka. Family Health Centre, BatticaloaA Family Health Centre was started by the Ramakrishna Mission, Batticaloa, on 28-04-2006 with duel aim of providing free health service to the needy people and much needed health care for the others at a nominal rate. The Health Centre serves the people on daily basis from 4.00 pm to 7.00 pm. Volunteer Doctors from the Batticaloa Base Hospital treat the patients and provide medical advice with love and care.
