Batticaloa is an Eastern coastal town of Sri Lanka where Swami Vipulanandaji (disciple of Mahapurush Swami Shivanandaji maharaj) started a series of educational activities and that was the initiative for the Ramakrishna Mission to establish its branch in this town. Ramakrishna Mission, Batticaloa, a sub-centre of the Ramakrishna Mission (Ceylon Branch) is mainly engaged in looking the needy Children and operates three Homes. The inmates of these Homes fall into the categories of orphans, destitute and deserted. Apart from providing them with the basic amenities of life in very wholesome surroundings they are instructed in all aspects to make their lives sublime. Boys HomeThe Ramakrishna Mission maintains more than 90 needy boys aged from 5 to 19. A highly disciplined life style is maintained in the home. The daily routines starts with getting up at the Brahma muhurth (05:00 AM) then prayers, Yogasana, studies, gardening, preparing for the pooja and preparing food. Nourishing meals are supplied and most of the vegetables obtained from the farm which is maintained by the boys at home. Sarada Girls HomeAs like the home for the boys, a separate home for girls is also operated by the Ramakrishna Mission. There are around 80 girls from the age 10 to 19 being provided with all necessary amenities. This Sarada girls home has a separate prayer hall with holy mother as the main deity in the shrine room. The same discipline is followed as like in the Boys home. Two resident matrons look after the girls under the direct guidance of the centre head Swami. Karaitheevu Girls Home
Karaitheevu is a small village in Batticaloa where Swami Vipulanandaji was born. Swami Vipulanandaji was a Bandit and known as the founder of the Batticaloa centre. A home for the needy girls is being operated by the Ramakrishna Mission near his birth place. Girls from age 3 to 12 are being brought up in this home. |
